Significantly quicker start-up speed for PCs → bbc.co.uk

A switch from the old BIOS software to a new fangled thing called UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), which will replace the BIOS software for the most part by Spring of 2011, will ensure your PC starts in seconds. I, personally, cannot wait.

“UEFI frees any computer from being based around the blueprint and specifications of the original PCs. For instance, it does not specify that a keyboard will only connect via a specific port.”

“He (Brian Richardson, of AMI’s technical marketing team) said that 2011 would be the year that sales of UEFI machines start to dominate.”
